Tennessee Walking Horse Cross Gelding

Roscoe is a 9-year-old Friesian/Tennessee Walking Horse (gaited) gelding standing 16.2hh. He is big, sturdy, smooth, and eye-catching, but what really makes him special is his mind. He is the first to greet you in the field, always willing to come in and do something, and has been a pleasure to work with.

Roscoe has been trail ridden extensively, and that is where he really shines. He rides out alone or in a group, crosses water, goes through the pond, crosses bridges, goes through tunnels, handles hills, and is comfortable outside of the arena. He is the type you can point down the trail and enjoy without feeling like you have to babysit every step.

He has a naturally smooth gait and is very comfortable to ride. He will walk, gait, and canter; has an excellent stop; backs nicely; and has been started on neck reining and side passing. He’s a quick learner, so it won’t be hard to finish those skills. They may even be finished before he sells. Roscoe does have plenty of get-up-and-go and is more forward than lazy, but he listens well, comes back when asked, and is not silly or unreasonable. He enjoys having a job and is forward, willing, and fun.

One thing I really appreciate about Roscoe is how sensible he is with different riders and situations. He has had multiple riders on him, including a 12-year-old who rode him independently and a 7-year-old who rode him while being ponied. He is big enough to carry an adult all day, but kind and forgiving enough to be easy to like. He would make a wonderful trail partner, family horse, husband horse, camping horse, or confidence-building mount for someone wanting size and smoothness without a lot of drama.

Roscoe stands to be tacked up, bathed, mounted, and handled for the farrier. He picks up his feet, self-loads and unloads on the trailer, and is good with everyday barn commotion. Dogs and other farm animals do not faze him, and farm machinery and traffic noise are nothing to him.

He is an honest, smooth, good-minded trail gelding with a solid foundation, a great stop, a willing attitude, and the kind of personality that makes you look forward to saddling up.

Good big, gaited geldings with this kind of size, looks, smoothness, and mind are hard to find. Roscoe is one I am proud to offer and have had a blast working with.
