Meet Huckleberry Finn! Or “Finn” to his friends- our gentle giant with a heart as big as he is. If you’ve been holding out for the kind of horse that gives peace of mind, no matter who’s in the saddle, look no further. Finn is that once-in-a-lifetime gelding you’ll feel lucky to own.
This 8 year old silver dapple Gypsy Vanner/Percheron cross stands a solid 15.3hh and is built like a tank—broad, balanced, and so easy on the eyes. He turns heads for sure, but it’s his calm, loving personality that will instantly win you over. Finn is the definition of steady and kind. He’s the type of horse that makes everyone- young, old, nervous, or confident; Feel safe the minute their foot hits the stirrup. He genuinely enjoys being around people, and he’s happiest when he’s with you- standing quiet for grooming, following you around the pasture or out on a one-on-one ride.
Finn has been our go-to for beginners, guests, and kids alike. He’s carried green riders with quiet confidence and never once lost his cool, even in sketchy situations or inconsistent terrain. From thick brush to open fields, water crossings to rocky ledges, he moves out with careful steps and doesn’t rush or balk. He leads, follows, rides out alone, or settles mid-pack without a fuss. He’s all heart, all the time. Dependable and patient.
He’s been ridden by our 8-year-old son in downtown traffic, around dogs, bicycles, and cars without a spook or misstep. Prior to coming to us, Finn had excellent handling and training. He spent a lot of his time on trails, attended clinics, given lessons and has had exposure to a variety of environments. He’s confident in new places, making him the kind of horse you can haul out to a new trail or place and know he’ll handle it well.
This is the horse I hand off without hesitation when someone says, “I haven’t ridden in years.” He’s the one I grab when I want a worry-free ride at the end of a long day. He’s carried precious cargo, our children and their cousins- and does it with care, patience, and a level of gentleness that you can’t teach.
Under saddle, Finn rides soft and willing. He responds beautifully to leg and seat cues, has a nice jog (for a big guy), an easy lope, and a big lovely stride if you ask . He picks up both leads, and is actually pretty athletic for a draft type! He has been ridden English and we’ve even asked him to hop over a few jumps for fun.
Finn stands quietly for the vet, farrier, bathing, tacking up- you name it. He’s polite on the ground, always easy to catch. He’s got that “been-there, done-that” attitude but still loves learning and aims to please.
If your checklist includes safe, sound, sweet, and stunning- you’ll want to meet Finn. He’s a true family horse, the kind you hang onto for the long haul. Whether you’re looking for a dependable trail mount, a confidence builder, or just a loyal equine companion, Finn fits the bill.
He sells 100% sound with a completed Pre-Purchase Exam from Todd County Animal Clinic (Dr. John Laster, DVM).
Located in Lyles, TN. Nationwide shipping available—we’re happy to help arrange transport.
