The Appaloosa is conspicuous by its coat pattern. It has spots, which are unmistakable and unique to the breed. Already 20,000 year old cave paintings show horses with such coloring. Many of the horses the conquistadores brought to the United States were spotted. In the 18th century, the hors ... More about the horse breed Appaloosa

JMS Leavin Lonesome Dove, better known as Gus, is the kind of horse that makes you feel like a real cowboy. Not to mention, he’s a movie star himself, featured in the new western film The Dead Don’t Hurt.
Gus is an 8-year-old ApHC colored registered gelding standing a perfect 15.2 hands. He’s got a big, beautiful hip, a kind eye, and keen ears that make him handsome even if he were a plain sorrel. He’s as gentle and broke as they come, with more real-life, ranch, and trail experience than most horses three times his age.
Gus has been the go-to mount for novice guests, tricky ranch chores, and relaxing trail rides alike. He’s been used to doctor cattle, gather pastures, and brand calves, and he worked weekly at the local sale barn penning back cattle and calves. He’s even been known to drag the occasional resistant bull or wild cow back to their pen.
As handy as Gus is in his working clothes, he’s just as impressive out on the town. He rides bareback and bridleless, lopes slow and collected circles on either lead, and has shown successfully in ranch pleasure, trail, and western riding. He’s also dabbled in cross-country style jumping and would make a super fun foxhunting or versatility mount.
We had the pleasure of selling Gus at Fall Roundup Horse Sale last year. He spent the year giving lessons and being adored by some little girls. When a move across the country forced his sale, we were thrilled to welcome him back. Last year, he was the first place winner out of 65 head in the trail course — which he completed completely bridleless.
He also lays down and bows, adding a little extra flash to an already impressive résumé. Gus would be exceptional candidate for working equitation, competitive trail or extreme cowboy competitions. With his quiet demeanor and go with the flow attitude you won't find much that phases him, not to mention he's extremely easy to ride and is very user friendly.
Whether you want to rope calves, doctor cattle, hit the trails, or ride English, Gus can do it all. He is absolutely safe, absolutely gentle, and one of the most versatile, enjoyable geldings you’ll ever swing a leg over. Gus truly is the total package — beautiful, broke, kind, and ready to make someone’s next chapter a great one.
He's up to date on dental, chiropractic, worming, farrier, and coggins. Give us a call or text Molly (208)566-3050 or John (208)310-5686 for more information about Gus.
