  1. A horse named “Old Billy” is said to have lived from 1780- 1822 and is therefore considered to be the oldest horse in the world.
  2. The largest horse in the world, a Shire gelding called “Sampson” reached an incredible height of 21.56hh and 3359.85 pounds. With a height of 3.49hh and a weight of 19.8 pounds, the Fallabella stallion “Little Pumpkin” is the smallest horse in the world. Even a Labrador or Golden Retriever is bigger.
  3. There are 9.2 million horses in the United States alone and about 4.6 million Americans are involved in the industry.
  4. The world horse population is estimated to be about 58 million.
  5. One of the oldest horse breeds in the world is the Arabian, or more precisely the Caspian horse. Archaeological findings show that these horses existed as early as 5000 BC.
  6. The title for most expensive horse in the history is currently held by a racehorse called Fugaichi Pegasus. He sold for a whopping $70 million.
  7. The two-year-old thoroughbred mare “Winning Brew” set a world record by reaching a speed of 43,97 mph. This makes her the fastest horse that has ever existed.
  8. Alberto Laraguibel Morales also set a world record with his thoroughbred in Chicago in 1949. He jumped a fence with an incredible height of 8’07”.
  9. Similar to humans, the legs of horses are not the exact same length. However, the difference is only very small. The mane usually falls to the side of the shorter leg.
  10. On average, horses drink between 5 to 10 gallons of water per day, depending on their workload.
