Therefore, breeding in general is not dependent on a breed or a particular pedigree. This leads to significant differences of these hors ... More about the horse breed Spotted Saddle Horse

Lakota is the SOUNDEST (yes, barefoot!) and SMOOTHEST trail horse extraordinaire with a gorgeous floaty gait. At 16.1 hands with big bone, wide solid feet, and a mane and tail most horses couldn’t dream of, this flashy gorgeous pinto easily catches your eye. Lakota has gotten loads of trail and into-town riding experience during his 13 years. He’s even won champion in ranch trail competitions, calmly going over see-saw, wobbly, and moving bridges! Lakota is traffic safe - we rides past gas stations and shops. He self-loads into the trailer next to a busy road as cars zoom by and he also trailers like a champ. Our 200+ acre farm has hay fields and ongoing construction projects and he’s been desensitized to large agricultural and construction equipment, along with semi-trucks. Train tracks go through the property, so he’s been ridden alongside many moving trains with all kinds of stuff on them – he doesn’t bat an eye.

Lakota goes both western and English, even bareback in a halter. He has the smoothest saddle rack and can go fast or slow, depending on what you ask. While bareback, we can even drop the reins and he maintains his gait beautifully. Lakota’s movement is so smooth that even a 78-year-old lady with a knee replacement and a friend with a herniated disk enjoy riding him. Unlike most gaited horses, Lakota has a very nice lope and can maintain it for as long as you need. He’s just as happy staying at the walk, even behind other horses or on the way home. Lakota also has a fantastic powerful trot you’d love in a dressage competition. In English, we’ve taken him over all kinds of jumps, and he maintains good, safe form with his knees raised up high.

On the trail, Lakota goes out alone or with others. He can lead, stay behind, or even pony another horse with a beginner rider (or be ponied himself!). We even double rode with a 2-year-old kid. He doesn’t mind dogs right under his feet, including a variety of German Shepherds we let loose. He’ll go over high or low bridges. If there’s a log, he’ll step over it, even downhill. Steep hills? No problem. Water? Any depth. To test his sure-footedness, we’ve ridden Lakota up and down some of the muddiest hills right into the water. Giant piles of millings? He goes up and down those too, and even though he feels his feet sinking and rocks crumbling, he heads anywhere the rider points.

Lakota is easy in the herd and can live out 24/7 or go in a box stall. With his excellent ground manners, he will follow you and stop when you stop like a dog. With a tarp over, a ball under a leaf blower in his face - Lakota stands ground tied like a champ (it’s on video!). He’s great for his routine vet, dentist (no sedation), farrier, grooming, tacking, bathing, clipping, you name it - it’s just a breeze.

Lakota comes with a recent PPE exam (Dec 21st, 2023), including x-rays, fresh Coggins and is up to date on all shots, dentals, deworming and vaccinations. Located: Boyds, Maryland, within an hour of Washington, DC. We can help arrange shipping almost anywhere on Earth. You are most welcome to schedule a trial ride on him or a have a PPE done with your personal vet.
