A serious accident occurred at the international CHIO show in Aachen. Rosalind Canter’s horse “Allstar” had to be put down.

Rosalind Canter’s horse Allstar refused to jump during the cross-country event at the CHIO in Aachen (Germany). Afterwards, the horse did not want to step with its left front leg. The horse did not fall. The 17-year-old stallion probably hit the obstacle with his leg.

As a result, the horse was taken directly to the clinic. Unfortunately, it was determined there that the injury could no longer be operated on. For this reason, the owner decided that the horse should be put down.

Irreparable damage

The injury was an open fracture of the crown joint. The crown joint lies directly above the horse’s hooves. Because the damage was irreparable, no surgery was considered. Especially fractures of the leg are a big problem for horses. Even after a successful operation, the horses often have to be hung up to relieve the leg. This means enormous stress for the horse as an escape and running animal.

The rider Rosalind Canter comments: “Alby, gosh I will miss your beautiful generous expression. A horse of a lifetime, and what a journey we went on! Thank you. With Allstar, she won gold with the team and in the individual at the 2018 World Championships in Tron. Now he will always remain in her thoughts.
