A day at the races turned tragic at Cartmel Racecourse when a horse suffered a fatal injury and collided with racegoers, sending two to the hospital.
Sudden Medical Emergency on the Track
During the third race of Cartmel’s final meeting of the season, the ten-year-old gelding Wbee suffered a sudden veterinary issue shortly after jumping the penultimate hurdle. Despite the jockey’s attempt to pull up the horse, it veered off course and crashed through the running rail into a group of spectators.
Two Spectators Hospitalized
Racegoers and medical staff rushed to the scene. Two individuals were injured in the collision and were taken to hospital for treatment. The horse could not be saved despite immediate veterinary care and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emotional Shock and Race Delay
The incident caused a significant delay to the racing schedule as the area was cleared and emergency services responded. Among the crowd was former boxing champion Tyson Fury, who had been present to support his own horses and praised the lively atmosphere at the course prior to the accident.
