Günter Wintersberger attracted unpleasant attention several times during a tournament. Now he is banned from all show grounds and events for 3 months.

At a national tournament in Ebreichsdorf (Austria), 55-year-old Günter Wintersberger participated with his horse “Champ of Class 6”. During a jumping test, the horse was disobedient, i.e. refused to jump. This was followed by a massive punishment of the horse. Among other things, he was whipped in the head.

In addition, Winterberger had already attracted attention the day before because of severe mistreatment of the horse in front of the public. But it was especially the second incident that was noticed by the public and thus damaged the reputation of equestrian sport.

Video evidence

There are several video recordings whose authenticity is unquestionable. Wintersberger was guilty on several counts. On the one hand, he damaged the reputation of equestrian sport, and on the other hand, he exhibited unsportsmanlike conduct. He was also guilty of not treating the horse in a way that was appropriate for the horse. Günter Wintersberger is now banned from all equestrian events for a period of three months (until 20 September) and is no longer allowed to enter any show grounds.
