Jockey Benjamnin Messina has tragically died in a car accident at the age of 19. He and two others could not be saved
Racing fans are now mourning the death of the promising jockey who tragically died at such a young age. The French showjumper and race rider was involved in a serious car accident. The tragedy occurred just weeks after Messina scored his first victory on the track in France.
The accident occurred at 3.30am on Sunday morning in Marigne-Peuton, between Rennes and Le Mans. Although the rescue services were quickly on the scene, the teenager could not be saved. A 31-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were also involved in the accident. For them, too, all help came too late.
Condolences
Some of his colleagues have already said goodbye to the 19-year-old on the internet. Among others, the British jockey Jacob Pritchard Webb wrote on Twitter: “This young lad had all the potential. […] Rest in peace Benjamin. Your success will be cherished.” A second person wrote: “Taken so young with his whole life ahead of him, very tragic. Thoughts and condolences with his friends and family. #RIPBenjamin.” And a third added: “So very, very sad RIP Benjamin.”
This young lad had it all there as raw potential… the trainer to the right of him gave me my best days in the saddle and he would have done the same for this young man! RIP Benjamin your success will be treasured https://t.co/z60RJXVGYt
