[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A stallion that escaped during a camping trip in March 2014 to join a passing herd of wild horses returned to his owner after eight years of living in freedom.<\/b><\/p>\n

Shane Adams<\/b> from Fielding, USA, was camping in the western desert of Utah when a herd of <\/span>mustangs<\/b> ran past his camp at a wild gallop. The sound of the thundering hooves had immediately alerted the then 33-year-old, because in front of his tent, his<\/span> four-legged companion<\/b> was tied up waiting to finally continue the camping trip. Dressed in his underpants, Adams rushed out of his bed to check on his stallion – and could only <\/span>watch him leave<\/b> in horror. <\/span>“Mongo” broke free <\/b>to follow his untamed mates into the snow-covered expanse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Desperate Search<\/b><\/h2>\n

For <\/span>three years<\/b>, Shane Adams spent nearly every weekend <\/span>searching<\/b> the West Desert area for his beloved horse. But Mongo remained missing. At some point, he gave up hope and the search.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Adams received <\/span>a call<\/b> in late September that he “never in a million years expected,” he revealed to television station KUTV, <\/span>fate<\/b> took an <\/span>unexpected turn<\/b>. The Bureau of <\/span>Land Management<\/b>, the United States’ land management organisation to which he had reported Mongo missing eight years previously, called back with<\/span> unexpected news<\/b>. Near Tooele County, authorities had gathered up a <\/span>herd of mustangs <\/b>when they spotted a <\/span>brand<\/b> on one of the animals that matched Adams’ description exactly when he had reported Mongo missing <\/span>nearly a decade ago<\/b>. As it turned out, <\/span>authorities<\/b> had in fact discovered Mongo among about 71,000 mustangs that were free to wander throughout the western United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reunion Video<\/a><\/p>\n

Like nothing had happened<\/b><\/h2>\n

\u201cI was thrilled. I found it <\/span>hard to believe<\/b>. It’s like waking up from a <\/span>dream<\/b>,\u201d said Adams to The Washington Post. The <\/span>18-year-old Mongo<\/b> is back in his old <\/span>home<\/b>. Amazingly, the stallion looks exactly the same, aside from the point that he is <\/span>severely underweight<\/b>. Adams remarked that it was <\/span>nonsensical<\/b> that despite having spent eight years<\/span> in the wild<\/b>, the stallion was still <\/span>acting like he used to<\/b>. He is still as <\/span>kind<\/b> and <\/span>polite<\/b> as ever. He appears to have never left his stable!<\/span><\/p>\n

Adams is aware of how <\/span>fortunate<\/b> he and Mongo have been. The horses “look like the walking dead” because they are<\/span> so thin<\/b>, he claimed, adding that there <\/span>isn’t much to eat<\/b> due to the drought. The farmer does not blame his horse for galloping away. “Given that horses are <\/span>herd creatures<\/b> and follow their <\/span>instincts<\/b>, I can understand why Mongo fled. But I’m happy that we can now look after him and make sure he <\/span>eats enough.<\/b>“<\/span><\/p>\n
