Since horses have traditionally been a significant element of royal life, young Elizabeth II grew up surrounded by them and had relatives who were horse owners. At last count, the monarch owned over 100 horses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the tender age of three, she did take her first riding class<\/strong> at the exclusive equestrian school in the Buckingham Palace Mews.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The following year, her father, King George VI<\/strong>, gave the four-year-old Elizabeth a Shetland pony<\/strong> named Peggy.<\/span><\/p>\n
