[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Isabell Werth’s former top horse “Satchmo” has died at the age of 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hanoverian gelding “Satchmo” died on Saturday at the age of 28<\/strong>. He died one day after the departure of his owner Isabell Werth, who was on her way to the World Championships training camp. She commented as follows: “The fact that I could not be with you at this moment weighs especially heavy in my heart<\/strong> after 25 years together,” Werth wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

The gelding came to Isabell Werth’s stable in Rheinberg (Germany) when he was three years old. He was not an easy horse<\/strong>, but the two of them achieved a lot together.<\/p>\n

Notable successes<\/h2>\n

Among other things, Satchmo won the 2006 World Championships in Aachen in front of 40,000 spectators with the team and in the Grand Prix Special<\/strong>. At the Olympic Games two years later in Hong Kong Werth won the team classification with Satchmo and was on her way to gold in the individual competition when Satchmo suddenly jumped up<\/strong> during the competition and in the end only silver remained.<\/p>\n

The gelding, which was not always easy, was one of the favourite horses<\/strong> of the most successful female rider in the world. Werth associates special emotions with Satchmo. An eye disease<\/strong>, which was only diagnosed late, is suspected to be the cause of some of his lapses in the arena.<\/p>\n

Werth is currently in a training camp preparing<\/strong> for the World Championships in Herning, Denmark, where the team competition begins on 6 August. The nine-time World Champion is part of the defending team.<\/p>\n
